Robert Nelson speaks about wrongful rape conviction and 30 year imprisonment
This guy has spent 30 years of a 70 year sentence for a rape he didn’t commit. Think about it. 30 years and DNA proves you did not do it. Does that just suck or what. Kind of makes you wonder about our Criminal Justice System. I am curious. Does his accuser feel any remorse for his being convicted for a crime he didn’t commit? How about the attorneys on both sides of the case? The Judge? What makes this an acceptable occurrence?
What pays this man for 30 years of his life lost? He is released to a world he no longer can associate with. How is he supposed to find work, find love, go on with his life. His chances of learning a career and growing within that career are gone. His chance of meeting and marrying a young woman, raising a family, and growing old together are gone. Frankly, after 30 years now damn near 50 years old, what is left for him.
I may be wrong but I believe the law does not allow him to seek to file suit against the City/State Government in hopes of being compensated for his false-imprisonment as the law allows them to make such mistake. So, what is this guy supposed to do. If it were me, you wouldn’t have to concern yourself with my future. You would have to concern yourself with your future because every day for 30 years that my life rotted away in prison, all I could think of was you.
